photoANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Christy Puthawala (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute and junior Lisa Giaquinto (Saylorsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) provided an insurance goal 10 minutes later as the Lebanon Valley College women’s soccer team defeated Elizabethtown College 3-1 in Commonwealth Conference action Tuesday evening at Herbert Field.

Lebanon Valley (6-1-2, 3-0-0 CC) stretched its unbeaten streak to four games while staying perfect in the Commonwealth. The game was the conference opener for Elizabethtown (6-3-2, 0-1-0 CC), which lost its third straight match.

After a scoreless first half, the Flying Dutchmen jumped to a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute when senior Kim McDonald (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) converted a breakaway from the left wing for her fourth goal of the season. The Blue Jays tied it up in the 58th minute after junior Kelly Drumel potted her first goal of the season on a breakaway shot of her own from the right wing.

Puthawala put the Valley ahead to stay when she accepted a feed from senior Katie Altemose (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and sent home a close-range shot for her second goal of the season.

Giaquinto looped in a shot from the top of the box and into the top left corner of the net to seal the win for the Dutchmen. The goal was Giaquinto’s first of the year.

Sophomore Jess Conrad (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) tied a career-high with 10 saves to pick up the win for LVC. Junior Amy Weid made a pair of saves for the Blue Jays.
