ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior Brian Sapienza (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute, leading the Lebanon Valley College men’s soccer team to a 2-1 Commonwealth Conference victory over Moravian College on Friday afternoon at Herbert Field during Homecoming weekend.
Sapienza’s goal, his first of the season, snapped LVC’s three-match losing streak and gave the team its first Commonwealth Conference victory of the season.
Senior Christian Koch (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) stopped six Greyhound shots and picked up the win in goal for the Flying Dutchmen (4-7-0, 1-3-1 CC).
Freshman Tyler Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) put LVC on the scoreboard in the 14th minute with his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Sapienza set up Frantz with his first assists of the season.
Moravian (1-8-1, 0-1-1 CC) pulled even in the 19th minute when Anthony Merz drilled in his first goal of the season.
Sapienza’s game-winner was assisted by junior Justin Ranck (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown).
Moravian was forced to play a man down for the final 21:57 after a Greyhound player was handed a red card.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Messiah College at 4 p.m. back at Herbert Field.
