Shultz Notches Hat Trick as Field Hockey Beats Albright

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Missy Shultz (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) scored three goals en route to her first career hat trick, and the No. 16 Lebanon Valley College field hockey team concluded its Commonwealth Conference regular season schedule with a 5-0 win over Albright College on Tuesday afternoon.

LVC (12-4) finished 5-2 in the Commonwealth and is currently in second place in the conference standings. The team's final conference finish will depend on Thursday's meeting between Juniata College and Susquehanna University. A Susquehanna win would give the Valley the second seed in the upcoming Commonwealth playoffs and set up a Juniata-LVC match-up at Lebanon Valley. If Juniata wins, the Dutchmen will receive the third seed and visit Juniata in the first round of the conference tournament.

Albright (3-13) concluded its Commonwealth schedule at 0-7.

Shultz's hat trick was also Lebanon Valley's first of the season.

Shultz gave the Valley all the offense it would need when she slipped in a shot off the stick of junior Erin Behney (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) seven minutes into the game. Just over seven minutes later, Shultz doubled LVC's lead with an unassisted tally.

Sixteen minutes into the second half, Shultz scored her third goal in a row, this time with an assist from junior Lindsey McCormick (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita). Freshman Steph Marguglio (Bridgeton, N.J./Bridgeton) posted her team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 64th minute, when she converted a feed from classmate Mallary Anderson (Columbia, Pa./Donegal). Junior Crystal Davis (Christiana, Pa./Octorara) set the final score when she potted her fourth goal of the season with 2:50 left. Junior Fairyn McCleary (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York) had the assist.

Freshman Abbey Gockley (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) recorded her first collegiate shutout in goal for Lebanon Valley. Gockley picked up one save while facing three shots.

Lebanon Valley returns home on Thursday when the team hosts Gettysburg College in a non-conference contest beginning at 3:30 p.m.
