GRANTHAM, Pa. – Junior Danae Chambers scored three goals and senior Kelly Stanwell recorded two goals and two assists, leading No. 6 Messiah College to an 8-1 Commonwealth Conference victory over No. 11 Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon.
Lebanon Valley (11-4, 4-2 CC) dropped its second straight game after winning eight in a row while Messiah (12-3, 6-0) stayed undefeated in the Commonwealth.
After senior Jen Selin (Pickerington, Ohio/Fallston) scored off an assist from junior Lindsey McCormick (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita), Lebanon Valley trailed just 2-1 with 4:46 left in the first half. But Aftan Fisher restored the Falcons’ two-goal lead when she scored with 44 seconds left in the stanza, and Messiah outscored LVC 5-0 in the second half, including a three-goal flurry over a 2:54 span midway through the half.
Freshman Katie Pawlewicz (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) registered five saves while taking the loss in goal for Lebanon Valley. Junior Erica Nelson made six saves to pick up the win for Messiah.
Lebanon Valley returns to play on Tuesday when the team hosts Albright College on Senior Day. With a win over Albright and a Susquehanna win over Juniata on Tuesday, LVC would finish second in the Commonwealth and host a first-round conference playoff game.
