GRANTHAM, Pa. – Behind a stellar defensive showing, the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team tied No. 10 Messiah College 0-0 Saturday evening in a Commonwealth Conference match-up.
The tie marked LVC's first-ever non-loss to Messiah, the defending conference champion and national runner-up.
Lebanon Valley, now 6-1-3 overall, stayed undefeated in the Commonwealth at 3-0-1 and extended its unbeaten streak to five. Messiah improved to 11-1-0 and 3-0-0 within the conference.
Messiah out-shot LVC 24-3, but sophomore keeper Jess Conrad (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was outstanding. Conrad saved a career-high 14 shots for the Valley.
Messiah held a 7-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Dating back to last season, LVC and Messiah have played 220 minutes of scoreless soccer. The two teams met in last season's Commonwealth Conference semifinals, with the Falcons prevailing 4-1 in penalty kicks after both sides failed to score in regulation and overtime.
Lebanon Valley resumes its schedule on Tuesday when it visits the University of Scranton at 4 p.m. in MAC non-conference action.
