Widener Takes a Pair From Swim Teams

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Widener University swept a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) swim meet from Lebanon Valley on Friday evening in the Arnold Sports Center.

The Pioneers won by a 124-63 count on the men’s side to improve to 6-2 and 3-1 in the MAC. Widener’s women’s squad captured a 130-73 decision and upped its record to 3-5 and 2-4 in conference competition.

LVC’s men fell to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in the MAC while the women’s team dropped to 2-7 and 1-6 in the conference.

Despite the two losses, Lebanon Valley managed to set a pair of school records. Freshman Isaac Greene (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) broke his own school record by over 10 seconds in the 800-meter free, finishing second in the event in 9:31.17, just seven hundredths of a second off the winning pace.

The women’s 400-medley relay team of freshman Jenn Kush (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus), junior Julia Falkner (Street, Md./North Harford), freshman Sam Meglino (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) and sophomore Joanna Tiedeken (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) also etched its name into the LVC record book. The foursome finished second and swam to a 5:09.22 clocking, over four seconds better than the previous school record.

Junior Lauren Procopio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) qualified for the MAC Championships with a 30.82-second performance in the 50-meter free while finishing third in the event. Sophomore Megan Deveney (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) exceeded the MAC qualifying standard and finished third in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:30.05.

Lebanon Valley returns to the water on Saturday for the team’s final home meet of the season. The Valley hosts Lycoming College and FDU-Florham (N.J.) in a MAC tri-meet beginning at 1 p.m.
