Women’s Hoops Wins Fourth Straight

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore guard Erin Eaby (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) came off the bench to post 15 points and six steals, both game-highs, in just 18 minutes to lead the Lebanon Valley College women’s basketball team to a 73-42 win over Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference action Tuesday evening in Lynch Gymnasium.

LVC (11-2, 4-1 CC) won for the fourth game in a row while Etown (3-11, 1-4 CC) extended its school-record losing streak to seven.

Lebanon Valley forced the Blue Jays into 30 turnovers and held Etown to 26.3% shooting. LVC registered 16 steals and eight blocked shots. The Valley shot 40.8% for the game.

Sophomore center Jennifer Northcott (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) posted 13 points and eight rebounds while sophomore guard Crystal Gibson (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) came up with 11 points, a game-high nine assists and four steals. Senior forward Stephanie Tighe (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Freshman forward Christina Buso led Elizabethtown with nine points while classmate Cristin Braun garnered a game-high 11 rebounds.

LVC never trailed in the game and raced to a 17-8 lead over the opening 8:58. Etown answered with a 6-0 run over a 1:26 span and cut the gap to 17-14 with 7:32 left. But the Valley went on to outscore the Blue Jays 18-5 for the rest of the half and took a 35-19 lead into the locker room.

With 12 points, Eaby led all scorers in the first half. She also had four steals in the opening stanza.

Lebanon Valley put the game out of reach by outscoring the Blue Jays 17-8 over the first 6:05 of the second half.

LVC returns to Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday when it visits conference front-runner Messiah College at 6 p.m. in a rematch of last season’s Commonwealth championship game.
