ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior Grant Walter (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) etched his name into the Lebanon Valley College men’s soccer record books Wednesday evening, as the Flying Dutchmen downed non-league opponent King’s College 6-1 at Herbert Field.
Walter surpassed Greg Glembocki ’97 on Lebanon Valley’s career goals list when he gave LVC a 2-1 lead 19:46 into the game with his 24th career goal. Walter’s goal would hold up as the game-winner, as the Dutchmen piled on four unanswered goals in the second half.
With 59 career points, Walter is also closing in on LVC’s career points record. The team co-captain needs just four more points to tie Glembocki and Nick Thomas ’02 for the Valley all-time points mark.
LVC (2-0-1) struck just 45 seconds into the match, when sophomore Scott Montgomery (Harrisburg, Susquehanna) potted his first goal of the season off an assist from senior Mike Boger (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest). King’s (1-1-0) recorded its only goal of the afternoon in the 19th minute to pull even at 1-1 and became the first team to score against the Dutchmen in three matches this season. Walter put the Dutchmen on top for good just over a minute later with his record-breaking tally.
The Valley broke the game open with a four-goal flurry over a 16:48 span midway through the second half. Boger converted a penalty kick at the 56:27 mark before first-year student Matt Sourbeer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) registered his first career goal off an assist by classmate Lee Lindemuth (Carawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) at the 65:59 mark to increase the Dutchmen’s advantage to 4-1.
Just 42 seconds later, Lindemuth scored his second career goal on a helper from junior Ian Moreland (Seven Valleys, Pa./Dallastown), giving LVC a 5-1 cushion. Sourbeer added his second goal of the game when he scored unassisted in the 74th minute.
Junior Christian Koch (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) posted seven saves between the pipes in 70:44 of action to improve to 2-0-0 on the season. Classmate Taylor Reinhard (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) played 19:16 and made a pair of saves.
The Valley returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Wilkes University for a non-league contest beginning at 11 a.m.
