ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College women’s soccer team improved to 2-0 in Commonwealth action with a 5-0 victory over Widener University on Herbert Field Saturday afternoon. Junior Kim McDonald (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) wreaked havoc on the Pioneers, scoring two goals and adding two helpers in the victory.
The Valley opened the scoring in the 16th minute when sophomore Lisa Giaquinto (Saylorsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) finished a feed from McDonald. McDonald then scored back-to-back goals, her fourth and fifth on the season, to give LVC a 3-0 lead.
First-year students Katie Lamplugh (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) and Christy Puthawala (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Central Catholic) added goals to put the finishing touches on the victory. Lamplugh’s goal was her team-leading sixth on the season. Junior Amber Spell (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) added a helper.
First-year goalkeeper Jess Conrad (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) picked up her second shutout of the year and improved to 4-1 on the season. She made three saves on the afternoon.
Lebanon Valley, ranked eighth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association/Adidas Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Poll, advanced its record to 7-2 while Widener dropped to 7-2-1 overall and 0-2 in the Commonwealth.
The Valley remains home as it takes on Franklin & Marshall College in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
