Lamplugh’s Overtime Goal Lifts Women’s Soccer

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – First-year student Kate Lamplugh (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) scored the game-winning goal 1:16 into overtime off an assist from senior Dawn Rumbley (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Lebanon Valley defeated DeSales University 2-1 in a MAC non-conference women’s soccer contest Wednesday evening.

Lebanon Valley, ranked eighth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association/Adidas Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Poll, advanced its record to 6-2 while DeSales dropped to 3-3.

Lamplugh, who missed the Flying Dutchmen’s last two games with an injury, now leads LVC with five goals in six games. Her three game-winning goals  is also a team-high.

Rumbley’s assist was her first of the season but it gave her 66 career points, moving her into a tie with Robyn LaRosa ’02 for the all-time LVC record. Rumbley now has 24 career goals and 18 career assists. With 65 career points, junior Katie Altemose (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) is also nearing LaRosa’s record.

Jeneen Covely gave DeSales an early 1-0 lead when she converted a shot off a rebound in the 31st minute. But junior Kim McDonald (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) tied the match at 1-1 in the 65th minute on a shot that bounced off the goalie and rolled into the net.

Lebanon Valley fired off a season-high 24 shots but DeSales goalie Melissa Levush made 10 saves to keep the keep the match close. DeSales managed just three shots.

First-year student Jess Conrad (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) did not register a save but earned the victory to improve to 3-1.

The Valley returns to action on Saturday when its hosts Widener University in a 3 p.m. Commonwealth Conference showdown at Herbert Field.
