Walter Breaks LVC Scoring Record in Men’s Soccer Victory

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior Grant Walter (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) surpassed Greg Glembocki ’97 and Nick Thomas ’02 for the Lebanon Valley College men’s soccer all-time points record as the Flying Dutchmen defeated DeSales University 2-1 Tuesday evening at Herbert Field in a MAC non-conference match.

LVC (6-1-1), ranked 10th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Mid-Atlantic Poll, won its fourth match in a row while DeSales (4-4), ranked ninth in the same poll, dropped its third consecutive match.

Walter scored his fourth goal of the season off an assist from first-year student Matt Sourbeer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) in the 18th minute to tie the match at 1-1. His goal also gave him 65 career points and bettered the previous school record of 63 established by Glembocki and Thomas. Walter, who broke the all-time LVC goals record earlier this season, now has 26 career goals and 13 career assists.

The Bulldogs jumped to an early 1-0 lead, scoring just 31 seconds into the match when Kevin Moore booted in his third goal of the season.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half until Sourbeer drilled home the game-winning goal with 3:47 left. Sourbeer, the reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, took a sideline throw-in on the left side of the field from junior Scott Montgomery (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna) and sent a rocket past DeSales keeper Ryan Karasaw into the upper right-hand corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Junior Christian Koch (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) made three saves in net to bump his season record to 6-1. Karasaw made two stops for DeSales.

LVC returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Widener University in a Commonwealth Conference showdown beginning at 1 p.m.
