ANNVILLE, Pa. – At 20-3 overall and on a 14-game winning streak, Elizabethtown College will be one of the teams to beat in the Commonwealth Conference. This afternoon, the Blue Jays turned away visiting Lebanon Valley College by scores of 2-0 and 9-1. The Valley saw its four-game winning streak snapped, slipping to 10-6 overall and 0-2 in the league, while ETown improved to 20-3 and 2-0.
In the opening game, LVC succumbed to six strikeouts tossed by sophomore Michelle Morris, who improved to 12-0 on the season with her fourth complete game shutout. Her counterpart, senior
Sam Rill (Lebanon, Pa./Annville-Cleona), had a no-hitter through four and two-thirds innings. She was burned for two runs in the fifth, but was on top of her game with four 1-2-3 innings.
Sophomore Tiffany Inch and junior Kristyn Race both scored for the Blue Jays in the fifth.
The nightcap got ugly for LVC as ETown scored three runs in the first, two in the third, and four in the fourth. Sophomore
Jess Cooney (Rockledge, Pa./Abington) lasted three innings, making way for classmate
Melissa Ulrich (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico). For the Blue Jays, sophomore Pam Pike pitched seven innings and improved to 7-2 on the season.
Junior
Amanda Stevenson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) scored the lone run for The Valley in the first inning.
Lebanon Valley will regroup and host non-conference foe Ursinus College on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
