Greene, Kush Break Records For Swim Teams

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men’s and women’s swimming teams came away with some impressive performances in their Commonwealth Conference season opener against Albright College Wednesday evening at the Arnold Sports Center.

Although the men’s team suffered a 111-52 loss, first-year student Isaac Greene (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) set a new LVC record in the 800-meter free. Greene’s time of 9:48.78 broke the school’s 10-year old record by 10 seconds and qualified him for the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships in the event.

On the women’s side, Albright posted a 117-81 win, the Lions’ 52nd straight dual meet victory. First-year swimmer Jenn Kush (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) was the bright spot for LVC, as the rookie broke the school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:12.48, surpassing the former mark of 1:15.70 set in 1993. Kush also qualified for MAC’s with her performance.

Also meeting an MAC-qualifying time was senior Chris Baumer (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury Township), who swam to a 26.95 clocking in the 50 freestyle.

Just missing MAC-qualifying standards were first-year student Sam Meglino (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley), junior Adam Demchak (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) and sophomore Megan Deveney (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro). Meglino missed the qualifying time in the 50 free by three hundredths of a second with a time of 30.99 while Demchak came up just 1.49 second short of the MAC qualifier in the 100 backstroke with a 1:13.66. Deveney posted a 1:32.44 in the 100 breaststroke, 1.81 seconds shy of the MAC standard.

Both teams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to the University of Scranton for a tri-meet beginning at 1 p.m.
