Greene Sets Pool Record For Men's Swimming

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Despite setting a pool record and qualifying two swimmers for the Middle Atlantic Conference championships the Lebanon Valley College men’s and women’s swimming teams each lost to Elizabethtown College in a MAC Commonwealth Conference meet Tuesday evening at Arnold Pool.

Elizabethtown defeated LVC’s men’s team 88-61 while the women’s team fell 106-92. The men’s team dropped to 0-4 and 0-3 in the Commonwealth. The women’s squad is now 0-5 and 0-4 in conference action.

Freshman Isaac Greene (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) took home two first places, setting a pool record in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 9:43.22 and qualifying for MACs in the 100-meter breastroke with a time of 1:16.35, just missing a team record. Junior Adam Demchak (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) placed second in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:02.56, just missing the qualifying time for MACs. The 200-meter freestyle relay team of senior Walt Smith (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra), sophomore Rusty Bentz (Newport, Pa./Newport), Demchak, and Greene took second place with a time 1:55.44.

On the women’s side, LVC came away with three first-place finishes. Freshman Jenn Kush (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) took home the 100-meter backstroke in 1:13.20. Fellow freshmen Samantha Meglino (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) and Megan Deveney (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) also had strong showings. Meglino qualified for MACs in the 50-meter freestyle finishing third with a time of 30.74 seconds. Deveney placed first in the 100-meter breaststroke touching the wall in 1:31.11 and just missed qualifying for MACs by a half a second.

Both teams resume swimming on Saturday, Dec. 7 when they head to College Misericordia for a 1 p.m. start.
