Susquehanna Takes a Pair from Swim Teams

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Despite several impressive individual performances, the Lebanon Valley College men’s and women’s swimming teams each lost at Susquehanna University in a MAC Commonwealth Conference meet Saturday afternoon.

Susquehanna defeated LVC’s men’s team 101-65 while the women’s team fell 112-90. The men’s team dropped to 0-3 and 0-2 in the Commonwealth. The women’s squad is now 0-4 and 0-3 in conference action.

Paul Curcio (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) picked up the men’s team’s lone victory on the afternoon with a first-place showing in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Isaac Greene (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) placed second and qualified for the MAC Championships in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.80) while Adam Demchak (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) also took second with a 1:08.1 clocking in the 100-yard backstroke.

On the women’s side, LVC came away with three first-place finishes. Jenn Kush (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:14.17 while taking second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.17. Jamie Kendall (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) captured the 100-yard butterfly in 1:18.47 and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Joanna Tiedeken (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), Jackie Neely (Mantua, N.J./Clearview), Megan Deveney (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Lauren Procopio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) touched the wall first in 1:56.21.

Procopio also took second in the 50-yard freestyle (28.29) as did Neely in the 100-yard freestyle (1:04.03). Ann Schnuer (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) also placed second with a 2:22.23 clocking in the 200-yard freestyle.

Both teams pick up their schedule on Tuesday when they host Elizabethtown in a 7 p.m. start.
