PITTSBURGH – The Lebanon Valley College women’s volleyball team saw its 2002 season come to an end Saturday morning after a 3-0 loss to top-seeded Moravian College in the semifinals of the ECAC South Championships at Carnegie Mellon University. But the accomplishments of head coach Wayne Perry’s ’78 young squad will not be forgotten anytime soon.
LVC wrapped up the 2002 season with a 29-12 record as the Flying Dutchmen set the school record for single-season victories. The Valley also qualified for the Commonwealth playoffs and the ECAC Championships for the second year in a row while picking up the team’s first-ever ECAC tournament victory. In addition, the team earned a spot in the AVCA Mid-Atlantic Region Poll for the first time in school history. Fortunately for the Dutchmen, all but one player will return for the 2003 campaign.
Moravian, which received a first-round bye in the tournament, won by scores of 30-23, 30-26 and 31-29.
First-year student Megan Brillhart (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) paced LVC with nine kills and three blocks while sophomore Amanda Bahn (York, Pa./Spring Grove) posted eight kills, 11 digs and two aces. First-year students Katie Ferree (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) and Catherine Roth (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) contributed defensively with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Senior Steph George (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) had a solid performance in her final collegiate game with four aces, three blocks and three kills.
