ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College women’s soccer team kept its Commonwealth Conference playoff hopes afloat after playing Elizabethtown to a 1-1 tie Friday evening at Etown in the Flying Dutchmen’s season finale.

The tie, LVC’s second straight, gives the Valley an 11-5-2 record and a final Commonwealth mark of 3-2-2. The team is currently in fifth place in the conference and must wait for playoff contenders Elizabethtown, Susquehanna and Moravian to finish their Commonwealth schedules. The top four teams qualify for the conference tournament.

Lebanon Valley took a 1-0 lead against Etown (8-8-1, 3-1-1 Commonwealth) in the 52nd minute when sophomore back Lisa Giaquinto (Saylorsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) sent a volley from just outside the 18 just over the head of Etown’s goalie. First-year student Christine Puthawala (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Central Catholic) delivered the ball to Giaquinto with a cross for her fourth assist in the last two matches.

The Blue Jays tied things up with 8:00 showing on the clock when Becca Young converted a cross from Aileen Musser.

LVC had an excellent chance to win the game in the second overtime, but Katie Lamplugh’s (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) shot missed just wide.

First-year goalie Jess Conrad (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made 10 saves in goal for LVC, as did Etown keeper Amy Weld. The Blue Jays out-shot the Dutchmen 17-13.
