ANNVILLE, Pa. – In its final home match of the season, the Lebanon Valley College women’s tennis team continued its stellar late-season play, scoring an 8-1 victory over DeSales University in MAC non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at the LVC Tennis Courts.

With the win, the team’s third in its last four outings, Lebanon Valley (8-6) secured its first winning season since 1999. The Flying Dutchmen won three matches (No. 3 doubles, No. 5 singles, No. 6 singles) by default as the Bulldogs closed out their season at 4-10.

In singles play, senior Jenelle Zeigler (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) came out on top of a close 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) match at No. 2 singles for her fourth consecutive win. LVC had little trouble at third and fourth singles. Junior Kristen Barone (Womelsdorf, Pa./Tulpehocken) picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles and classmate Kelly Stauffer (Pennsburg, Pa.Upper Perkiomen) earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 4 singles.

Sophomore Chris Jessen (Newfield, N.J./Woodstown) and first-year student Sophia Kwon (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) won by default at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

Zeigler and junior Amora Cook (Schaefferstown, Pa./ELCO) won by an 8-4 count at first doubles while Jessen and senior Robyn Sotak (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) were 8-1 victors at No. 2 doubles. Stauffer and Barone were the beneficiaries of a DeSales default at third doubles.

LVC closes out its 2002 campaign on Wednesday when it travels to Wilkes University for another MAC non-conference match, scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
