ANNVILLE, Pa. – After dropping two out of three doubles matches, Lebanon Valley rallied to take four of six singles matches and the Flying Dutchmen handed Eastern University just its second loss of the year in a 5-4 non-conference victory Monday afternoon at the LVC Tennis Courts.
Lebanon Valley pushed its record back over .500 at 7-6 while the Eagles fell to 10-2.
In the Valley’s lone doubles victory, first-year students Angela Petiak (Wapwallopen, Pa./Berwick) and Jenny Larson (Kelso, Wash./Kelso) teamed up for a 9-8, 7-5 tiebreaker victory in the pair’s first match of the season.
At first singles, junior Amora Cook (Schaefferstown, Pa./ELCO) snatched a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win while senior Jenelle Zeigler (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) won her third match in a row with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles to improve to 7-5.
Sophomore Chris Jessen (Newfield, N.J./Woodstown) and first-year student Sophia Kwon (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) continued to impress at the bottom of the lineup. Jessen captured a 6-1, 6-1 win and upped her record to 8-2 at No. 5 singles (8-5 overall) while Kwon pulled out a 6-3, 7-5 victory at sixth singles to move to 6-2 at the position and 6-3 overall.
Lebanon Valley will remain at home for a MAC non-conference match against DeSales University Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
