Women's Soccer Rolls Over Albright, 4-0

READING, Pa. – First-year student Kate Lamplugh (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) scored twice and classmate Christine Puthawala (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) tied a school record with three assists and the Lebanon Valley College women’s soccer team blanked Albright College 4-0 in a sloppy Commonwealth Conference match Wednesday afternoon.

LVC (11-5-1, 3-2-1 Commonwealth) won for the third time in its last four matches and moved into a tie with Moravian for fourth place in the conference standings. Albright fell to 8-9-1 and 0-6 in the Commonwealth.

Lamplugh spotted the Valley a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute with her team-leading 14th goal of the season. Puthawala, who did not have an assist this season entering the match, notched her first collegiate helper on the goal. Puthawala handed out her second assist in setting up a goal by junior Kim McDonald (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) three minutes later, as LVC took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Lamplugh pushed her team’s lead to 3-0 when she found the back of the net in the 57th minute. The tally gave Lamplugh her fifth multiple-goal game of the year. First-year player Jessica Stoltzfus (Souderton, Pa./Christopher Dock) provided the assist, her third of the season.

Puthawala help finish off the Lions in the 69th minute, when she assisted on rookie Abbey Esbenshade’s (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) first collegiate goal. Puthawala’s three assists tied three others for the school record and she was the first to achieve the feat since McDonald on Sept. 14 of this season.

Jess Conrad (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had a light day in goal, saving the only two shots she faced for her fourth shutout of the year.

The Valley will look to keep its Commonwealth playoff hopes alive when it travels to Elizabethtown College for a 4 p.m. match on Friday. The match will mark the first meeting between the Dutchmen and Blue Jays since LVC defeated Etown 1-0 in the conference semifinals last season.
