ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College women’s soccer team continued to have its way offensively after shutting out King’s College 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at Herbert Field in a MAC non-conference game.
Junior Kim McDonald (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) and first-year player Kate Lamplugh (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) scored a pair of goals apiece for LVC, which racked up seven goals for the third time in its last four outings. The Valley out-shot King’s 19-2 and pushed its record to 10-5. King’s dropped to 2-14.
Sophomore Jess Coles (Pilesgrove, Pa./Woodstown) opened the scoring in the 15th minute when she drilled home her first collegiate goal. Just 2:03 later, McDonald posted her 10th goal of the year as she set a single-season career high. Sophomore Ilyse Resnick (Holland, Pa./Council Rock) provided the assist, her first of the season. In the 25th minute, Resnick and McDonald traded places, with Resnick scoring her first goal of the year and McDonald handing out her team-leading eighth assist of the season.
LVC took a 4-0 lead into halftime after sophomore Heather Runkle (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) notched her fifth goal of the season off a feed from senior Dawn Rumbley (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright).
Lamplugh and McDonald put the match out of reach with a three-goal surge over a 4:02 span midway through the second half. In the 36th minute Lamplugh made it 5-0 when she drilled home her 11th goal of the year with an assist coming off the foot of junior Katie Altemose (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg). Twenty-four seconds later, Lamplugh assisted McDonald on the junior’s second goal of the game. The Lamplugh-McDonald connection struck again 3:28 second later, with McDonald crossing to Lamplugh, who posted her second tally of the game and her fourth multiple-goal performance of the season.
Jess Conrad (Mechanicburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Stacey Delano (Minotola, N.J./Buena Regional) split the time in goal as the Valley posted its sixth shutout of the season.
LVC returns to Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday when the team travels to Susquehanna University in a noon start.
