Women’s Soccer Wallops Wilkes 7-2

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women’s soccer team won a wet one this afternoon as juniors Katie Altemose (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and Kim McDonald (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) each scored two goals apiece to lead LVC to a 7-2 win over Wilkes University at Herbert Field.

The Valley opened the scoring in the fifth minute when sophomore Lisa Giaquinto (Saylorsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) finished a feed from Christine Schmidt (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg). Less than five minutes later McDonald found the back of the net with a feed from Jessica Coles (Pilegrove, N.J./Woodstown). Altemose and senior Dawn Rumbley (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) rounded out the first half scoring with assists from McDonald and first-year student Jessica Stoultzfus (Souderton Pa./Christopher Deck Mennonite).

The second half saw a lot of the same as the McDonald and Altemose connection quickly made it 6-0, scoring back-to-back goals on feeds from junior Amber Spell (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) and first-year student Kate Lamplugh (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland). Christy Puthwala (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Central Catholic) added a late goal to put the finishing touches on the Colonels. Junior Sarah O’Connell (Weathersfield, Conn./Weathersfield) added an assist.

Wilkes broke the shutout when Tina Mooney scored with 29:42 remaining in the second half. Holly Shiber scored a late goal for the Colonels.

First-year goalkeeper Jess Conrad (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and junior Stacey Delano (Minotola, N.J./Buena Regional) split time in goal with each making three saves on the afternoon. Katie Green made 12 saves for Colonels

Lebanon Valley upped its record to 9-5 while Wilkes dropped to 5-9-1 with the loss.
