Field Hockey Edged Out By Susquehanna in Double Overtime

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Leah Bailor scored the game-winning goal with 7:56 left in the second overtime, and No. 12 Susquehanna upset eighth-ranked Lebanon Valley 3-2 Tuesday evening at Lopardo Stadium.

Susquehanna (11-1, 2-0 Commonwealth) tied a school record with its 11th straight win and beat LVC (9-3, 3-2 Commonwealth) for the first time since 1993.

Susquehanna took a 1-0 lead just 57 seconds into the game and never trailed. Jodi Dotterty put the Crusaders on the board when she scored her 14th goal of the season off a pass from Lauren Barcaro. Around seven minutes later sophomore Erin Behney (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) retaliated for the Valley with her team-leading ninth goal of the season and the teams went into halftime with the game tied at 1-1.

Bailor put Susquehanna ahead 2-1 on a penalty stroke with 13:11 to go in regulation and it appeared as if the Crusaders were on their way to an early victory. But with only six ticks remaining on the clock, senior Jenna Micozzi (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) forced overtime with her fifth goal of the year.

Both teams had chances to win in the first overtime and Susquehanna keeper Katie Hess made an outstanding save on a partial LVC breakaway to preserve the tie.

Hess finished with five saves for the Crusaders while Carla Reavis (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) stopped four shots for LVC. Susquehanna out-shot Lebanon Valley 13-9.

The Dutchmen return to action on Thursday when they host Arcadia University in a non-league match starting at 4 p.m.
