ANNVILLE, Pa. – First-year students Megan Brillhart (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) and Lexi Horstman(Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) tallied a team-high 13 kills apiece, leading LVC to a 3-0 sweep over Widener University in Commonwealth Conference volleyball action Tuesday evening in Lynch Gymnasium.

LVC (20-9, 3-2 Commonwealth) shut out the Pioneers by scores of 30-19, 30-25 and 34-32 en route to the team’s fourth sweep in a row. The Flying Dutchmen also reached the 20-win mark for the second year in a row. Widener fell to 14-17 and 2-3 in conference play.

Aiding the Valley’s offensive attack were junior Sherri Pursel (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) and sophomore Amanda Bahn (York, Pa./Spring Grove), who posted 12 and nine kills, respectively. Bahn was equally effective defensively, pumping out 12 digs and three blocks. First-year student Katie Ferree (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) also had 12 digs while classmate Catherine Roth (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) registered seven digs and 42 assists.

Brillhart also notched four aces and two blocks. Horstman served up a pair of aces, as did senior Steph George (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest).

The Flying Dutchmen resume their Commonwealth Conference schedule Friday when they host conference frontrunner Juniata College at 7:15 p.m.
