Volleyball Sweeps Three Straight, Wins FDU Tournament

MADISON, N.J. – Lebanon Valley swept three straight matches en route to winning the team championship at the FDU-Florham (N.J.) Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Flying Dutchmen recorded a 3-0 shutout over Messiah, FDU and Montclair State (N.J.) to improve to 19-9 on the season.

In the team’s first match of the day, the Valley avenged an earlier loss this season to Messiah with a 30-23, 30-28, 30-27 victory. Junior Sherri Pursel (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) led the way with nine kills and 10 digs while first-year student Lexi Horstman (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) threw down eight kills. Sophomore Amanda Bahn (York, Pa./Spring Grove) also had a big match with 12 digs, two service aces and three blocks. First-year student Katie Ferree (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) added 10 digs while classmate Catherine Roth (Hanover, Pa./Delone Cathlolic) dished out 31 assists. Senior Steph George (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) chipped in with three blocks.

Against FDU, the Dutchmen won by scores of 31-29, 30-23 and 30-26. Horstman tallied a team-high 13 kills while first-year student Megan Brillhart (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) was good for 12 kills, three blocks and two aces. Ferree and Bahn each picked up 11 digs and Roth distributed 35 assists to go with three aces and two blocks. Pursel registered three blocks while junior Angie McCracken (York Springs, Pa./Walkerville) had two rejections.

Lebanon Valley finished the day with a 30-26, 30-28, 33-31 win over Montclair State. Horstman paced the Dutchmen once again with a team-high 14 kills. Brillhart delivered 10 kills and four blocks while Roth recorded a “double-double” with 40 assists and 15 digs. Bahn totaled a team-high 15 digs to go with a pair of aces. Roth, Samantha Dorman (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) and George also served up two aces apiece

LVC returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Widener University in a Commonwealth Conference match starting at 7 p.m.
