Gabrielle Welter was named the MAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Track Athlete of the Week after she broke a 31-year-old school record in the 55-meter dash on Friday at the Dutchmen Invitational, running 7.39 seconds in the preliminaries and 7.40 seconds in the final to qualify for the MAC and AARTFC Championships in the 60 meters. Her time lowered the previous record of 7.44 seconds run by LVC Athletics Hall of Famer Jennifer Nauss Cornish in 1995. Welter's converted 60-meter time of 7.96 seconds in second in the MAC and eighth in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The sprinter also ran the 300 meters and finished in 44.45 seconds, which ranks fourth in program history in the event.
