ANNVILLE, Pa.
- Lebanon Valley opened its 2012 season Tuesday, being handed a 13-4 setback by Randolph-Macon at Arnold Field.

Alex Beard scored twice to lead the Dutchmen (0-1), who were meeting the Yellowjackets (2-1) for the first time in program history.

Randolph-Macon disrupted eight LVC clears to win the transition game, and controlled face-offs 12-9. They used a 3-0 run in the second quarter to blow open a 2-1 game.

A slow start to the game came to an end with three goals in the final 2:50 of the first quarter, with Randolph-Macon's Jason Andrews and Josh Merwin scoring 1:24 apart to go up 2-0. Alex Beard notched with 1:01 left in the period to cut the lead in half.

RMC ran away in the second quarter, though, with a pair of Patrick Egan goals and Tim Rowe's late score making it a 5-1 game at halftime, and Tyler Midwinter's score to start the third quarter putting his side up 6-1.

LVC found some life when defender Ryan Lanigan scored from Malik Pedroso on a transition, and Matt Aldridge earned his first career goal off a Jordan Mayr feed to end the quarter. The Yellowjackets scored two goals to open the fourth before Beard hit his second, but four RMC goals in the final 6:48 closed the game out at 13-4.

RMC outshot LVC 48-22. Mike Moll made 15 saves in his first career start, while Jason Crawford stopped eight to earn the win. LVC was 0-for-4 on man-up chances; the visitors were 1-for-3.

The Dutchmen visit Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) on Saturday.
