One of the most decorated defensive players in LVC football history, Cottone became the first Dutchman to be named MAC Defensive Player of the Year. He earned All-Conference First Team accolades as a senior after two consecutive second-team recognitions.
Cottone played his way onto the D3football.com All-Region Third Team in 2008 after leading the team with 71 total tackles, including 12.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He added one interception, five pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries that season. Cottone's career numbers were equally impressive. He played in all 40 possible games over four years, racking up 316 tackles, 42 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, and six interceptions.
