How It Happened
Lebanon Valley was unable to hold a fifth-inning lead after Messiah used the long ball to come away with a 5-2 victory in the second game of the MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament at LVC Softball Park on Friday afternoon, May 4.

The Flying Dutchmen (18-15) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth when Jen Kaufman singled to center field with two away and scored Sarah Musselman and Kristi Langhans in the process. Musselman pinch ran after a Madison Watson single and Langhans sparked the rally with a double to left field.

The Falcons (25-16) answered back in the bottom of the frame, beginning with Madelyn Yannetti's solo home run to left field that got them on the board. From there, Messiah used three singles and a triple to tack on two more runs and take its first lead of the contest at 3-2.

Another home run padded the Falcons' lead when Erin Cressman launched a two-out, two-run shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the sixth stanza.

LVC threatened in the top of the next frame when Rylee Shockley and Watson began the inning with back-to-back singles. A pair of fielder's choices moved pinch runner Mackenzie Hasenauer to third base but the Dutchmen were unable to push any runs across in the seventh.

How It Happened
Lebanon Valley kept its postseason alive when Kate Whelski's seventh-inning, RBI double sealed a 6-5 walk-off victory over Hood in the first elimination game of the MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament on Friday afternoon, May 4.

After the Blazers (19-19) erased a three-run deficit in the final two frames, Whelski's game-ending extra-base knock capped a late rally for LVC (19-15). With one away, Savannah Toth singled to center field and moved Tianna Yanoscak into scoring position before Whelski laced a 2-0 pitch into the gap in left center field to advance the Flying Dutchmen to day two of the conference tournament.

Hood got on the board first when Kristy Erfurdt hit a solo home run in her first at-bat of the game but LVC drew even in the bottom of the stanza when Toth's two-out single to center field scored Jen Kaufman from second base.

The Dutchmen took the lead for the first time when Toth doubled to left center field and plated Kaufman and Robin Feaster in the bottom of the third. Whelski's ensuing single drove in Toth from second base before the inning was out.

The Blazers cut the deficit to 4-2 in the top of the fourth but Lebanon Valley tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth when Yanoscak's sacrifice fly to center field allowed Kaufman to tag up from third base after she led off the bottom of the frame with a double to shallow left field.
