Athletics Holds Mental Health Workshop As Part of Division III Week

4/3/2018 3:49:00 PM

ANNVILLE, Pa. – In conjunction with the NCAA's annual Division III Week, Lebanon Valley held a mental health workshop in Chapel 101 on Tuesday morning, April 3.

The session was led by a number of LVC student-athletes, including men's ice hockey player and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president Russ Armbruster, men's soccer player and SAAC secretary Nate Gibbons, softball's Lexi Windsor, men's tennis player and men's swimmer Jordan Heavel, women's swimmer Ellie McNamara, and women's soccer player Lea Dungan.

LVC women's lacrosse head coach Jackie Dando also helped organize the event and the nearly 100 student-athletes in attendance were treated to a visit from Lebanon County Director of Mental Health Services Holly Leahy. Leahy spoke on statistics of suicide in Lebanon County and provided the group with phone numbers and contact information for those in need.

The student-athletes discussed suicide prevention and the signs and symptoms of those who suffer from mental health issues. Yellow wrist bands with messaging branded on them were passed out to all in attendance in hopes of spreading awareness of the "You Matter" campaign.

Lebanon Valley will continue to spread mental health awareness and celebrate Division III Week at a number of athletic contests over the next few days, including men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis, baseball and softball games.
