Complete List of Jostens Trophy Finalists
SALEM, Va. – Lebanon Valley men's basketball player
Andy Orr has earned the prestigious honor of being selected by the Salem Rotary Club as one of 10 finalists for the 2018 Jostens Trophy.
The Jostens Trophy is awarded to an outstanding NCAA Division III men's and women's basketball player who excels on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. This season marks the 21st presentation of the awards, with the inaugural trophies bestowed in 1998.
Orr joins former standouts JD Byers '05 and Andy Panko '99 as the only LVC players to be named a finalist for the Jostens Trophy. Byers won the award in 2005 and Panko was a finalist in 1999.
Orr helped lead the Flying Dutchmen (18-9) to the program's first outright conference title since 1995 and its first NCAA Division III Championship Tournament appearance in more than a decade. The team captain has been strong across the board as a senior and is nearly averaging a double-double with 18.2 points on 53.3 percent shooting from the field and 9.9 rebounds per contest. The former D-III News All-American ranks top-30 in the country with a 2.0 blocked-shots-per-game average and his rebounds-per-game output is good enough to rank him top-40 in the nation. Orr racked up 12 double-doubles on the year and was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week on three occasions this season. He earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week in November and was pegged the ECAC South Player of the Week earlier this month before being named MAC Commonwealth First-Team All-Conference for the third time. He is the only player in program history to score 1,900 points and grab 900 rebounds during his career.
Orr has also performed at a high level in the classroom throughout his time at Lebanon Valley. He is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree and has twice been named Academic All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) to go along with a pair of MAC Academic Honor Roll appearances. He currently holds a 3.58 cumulative GPA as a Business Administration major.
He has also had a hand in a number of community service efforts the past four years, including joining other members of the men's basketball team for spring cleaning and beautification of YMCA Camp Shand as part of the Lebanon County United Way Day of Caring. Orr has taken the lead in running the annual Rhoades Foundation Classic at Sorrentino Gymnasium the last four seasons, as well as joined hundreds of LVC student-athletes in annually cleaning up the local community via the Adopt-A-Highway program. As a part of the men's basketball team, he's twice helped organize and present the program's Make-A-Wish Game, with all proceeds from the event going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The past two years have seen Orr and a number of men's basketball players travel to Northern Lebanon Elementary School to read to children as part of the school's reading program.
The Jostens Trophy is a national award created by the Rotary Club of Salem to honor the most outstanding men's and women's NCAA Division III basketball players of the year. The award takes into account three vital parts: basketball ability, academic prowess, and community service. The trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of the well-rounded NCAA Division III student-athlete.
The Dutchmen continue their postseason run in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament on Friday night. LVC takes on No. 18 Middlebury at regional host Eastern Connecticut State at 5:30 p.m.
