How It Happened
Lebanon Valley failed to register a hit in the team's 2-0 loss to Widener on day one of the 2017 MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament at Alvernia on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride (24-11) scored just two runs but they proved more than enough thanks to a career performance by starting pitcher Alexis Schengrund. The hurler threw her first career no-hitter and allowed just one LVC player to reach base.
Lauren DelRomano's solo home run in the top of the first inning got the scoring started and Taylor Allen's two-out, RBI single plated an unearned run in the bottom of the second to cap the contest's run total.
Schengrund did the rest, retiring the Flying Dutchmen (23-14) in each of the final five innings.
Inside the Circle
-
Maddie Abbot (13-7) got the start for LVC and was credited with the loss despite a solid performance that saw her surrender just one earned run on three hits and a walk to go along with two strikeouts.
-
Lexi Windsor was strong in relief, throwing the final four innings for the Dutchmen and allowed just three hits and two walks. She also struck out three batters.
- Alexis Schengrund (5-2) stole the show by throwing a complete-game no-hitter. She allowed just one base runner on a hit-by-pitch and recorded six strikeouts.
At the Plate
-
Cheyanne Brown was the lone Dutchman to reach base after being hit by a pitch in the second inning.
- Lauren DelRomano was the only player to have a multi-hit outing. She homered and finished 2-4 on the day.
- Taylor Allen recorded Widener's second RBI with a two-out single in the second stanza.
Around the Diamond
- LVC committed the game's only error, leading to one unearned run.
- Widener's Katie Sterling stole the only base of the contest.
-
Alissa Robinson assisted on four outs from her spot at third base.
