When
Nikki Lloyd committed to Lebanon Valley, there was chatter about the possibility of a women's ice hockey team, but at the time it was just a rumor. Nikki chose to become a Dutchmen anyway, for the school's strong academic track record, along with the intention to play field hockey in the fall and lacrosse in the spring.
During the Harrisburg native's second semester in April of 2015, the women's ice hockey rumors became true and that the campaign would start in the 2016-17 season. Once Lloyd heard the exciting news, she instantly knew she wanted to lace up the skates for LVC because after a semester off the ice, it was sorely missed.
Every college student must possess good time management skills to succeed, and by playing two sports a year, Lloyd must always be on top of her game. "Balancing academics with field hockey and lacrosse definitely wasn't the easiest thing, but I think sports help me be more on top of my work because (my) time management is much better in season than out of season", said Lloyd. "When I move from ice hockey to lacrosse next year it might be a little more challenging because I won't get a break in between seasons".
Lloyd played 13 years of ice hockey before coming to LVC with nine of those years being played on an all-boys (except her) travel team. Time management is nothing new for Lloyd. In high school, she balanced academics with field hockey, lacrosse, and hockey practice which took place in West Chester every day, about an hour and a half from Harrisburg.
Currently, Lloyd plays midfield for LVC's women's lacrosse squad and has played in every game so far this season. She scored the game-winning goal against Shenandoah back on Feb. 27 as the Dutchmen sit with a 3-3 overall mark so far in 2016.
Once this summer passes by, it will soon be time for Lloyd to lace up her skates and hit the ice after a year off. Lloyd doesn't need to worry about being rusty, it's like riding a bike, right? "I am looking forward to starting up a new program and being the foundation for years to come because it's not every day that you can be part of an inaugural team", said Lloyd. "I am also really excited to being back on the ice competitively and playing with some of my old teammates again".
