How It HappenedLebanon Valley fought back from a slow start to draw even with Stevenson midway through the second half but the Mustangs used two goals in the game's final five minutes to earn a 3-1 win and eliminate the Flying Dutchmen from the MAC Commonwealth postseason tournament on Wednesday night.
Stevenson struck early, getting on the board in the game's sixth minute when leading-scorer Rosemarie Neiva put her attempt from left of net past LVC goalkeeper
Victoria ByDeLey off an assist from Sara McVey.
The Dutchmen had a number of scoring chances in the first half, outshooting the home team 7-to-5 in the opening 35 minutes but three of those attempts were blocked, one was wide, and three were stopped by Mustang keeper Kim Hahr.
LVC got off the first four shots of the second half and was awarded four penalty corners during a 14-minute span from the 39th to 53rd minute. That aggressiveness finally led to the equalizer when
Lyndee Sheaffer found the back of the net off an assist from
Molly Van Leuvan with 16:54 remaining.
The Dutchmen got another good look with less than eight minutes left to play when
Rachel Gorman found
Kristen Garman off a penalty corner but Garman's shot was thwarted by Hahr and
Maddie Fox's rebound attempt was blocked at close range.
Neiva's 18th goal of the season, a deflection in front coming with 5:01 remaining, proved the difference. Katelyn Byram connected with McVey for an insurance score just over a minute later and LVC was left with little time to answer.
Notable PerformerLyndee Sheaffer – The senior forward took just one shot, netting the game-tying goal to give LVC new life midway through the second half. After a slow start to her season, Sheaffer finished the year with seven goals.
