ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley College student-athletes performed 2,685 hours of community service in 2012-13 - nearly 112 days' worth.
The LVC community as a whole contributed 23,482 service hours this past academic year, earning the College a place on The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. LVC's varsity athletic teams performed 2,205 hours of off-campus service in the community in a diverse array of activities ranging from working at local YMCA camps to Habitat For Humanity to walking to fight juvenile diabetes.
On-campus, LVC teams provided 480 hours of service, including extensive work with the Special Olympics of Lebanon County. Many teams joined with other campus organizations for service projects, including Colleges Against Cancer and Community Dutchmen.
The football team led LVC teams with 882 total hours of service, or nearly eight hours per player. The ice hockey team had the top per-person participation, averaging more than 12.6 hours per student-athlete for their work on the Wounded Warrior Game, which raised funds for veteran's charities, and the Dutchmen Outdoor Classic, which benefited the Mario Lemieux Foundation.
