ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College football team handed out its post-season awards before a packed audience at its annual banquet at Mund College Center on Saturday.
Offensive MVP -
Ben Guiles
Senior
Ben Guiles was named All-America and the ECAC and MAC offensive player of the year while setting LVC career records for rushing and touchdowns. In 2011, he ran for 1,226 yards and 19 touchdowns, ranking fifth in the nation in scoring.
Defensive MVP -
Cory Homer
Senior
Cory Homer also earned all-America honors to be named all-ECAC and all-MAC at defensive end. He was the Most Outstanding Player of the ECAC South-West Bowl and had 108 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and 20.5 sacks for a loss during the season.
Special Teams MVP -
Sean Fakete
Sophomore kicker
Sean Fakete earned all-ECAC and all-MAC honors with a single-season record 41 PATs to go with seven field goals. He set a single-game record with 13 kick points against Stevenson early in the season.
Unsung Hero -
Colt Zarilla
Senior quarterback
Colt Zarilla set LVC single-season records for passing yards (2,409) and touchdowns (22) as he completed 56% of his passes. He was also LVC's starting punter, earned MAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after the Wilkes game.
Hammer Hit Award -
Jason Gigous
Senior inside linebacker
Jason Gigous earned the Hammer Hit Award for his work against opposing offenses this season. The honor is given to a defensive player who consistantly hits the hardest during the season.
Scott Wallace Memorial Award -
Nate Kauffman
Junior
Nate Kauffman was named the Scott Wallace Memorial Award recipient, given to a returning team member in good academic standing who displays exemplary play on the field. Kauffman made 47 tackles starting at safety, and was elected a captain for the 2012 season.
Walter Sheets Memorial Offensive Lineman Award - Mike Attanasio
Senior Mike Attanasio was a do-it-all lineman for the Dutchmen, stepping up to start at left guard four times during the season. He also served as the team's long-snapper on place kicks and earned a spot on the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
Service Players of the Year -
Jeff Hacker (offensive), Joe Scerbo (defensive),
Aaron Miller (special teams)
The Service Player of the Year awards are given to players who show outstanding dedication and drive in helping the varsity team prepare for their opponents in practice. Hacker, Scerbo, and Miller were all invaluable to the team in mimicking opponents' schemes in practice during the week.
