Wiley Wins TJ, Three Others Medal At MACs Day Two

Results Through Day 2

CHESTER, Pa. - Caleb Wiley won the men's triple jump and Sarah Fenning got silver in the women's triple to lead Lebanon Valley on day two of the 2010 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Widener University.

LVC earned four medals Friday, all in field events, as Zach Bleiler grabbed a bronze in the discus and Joe Meehan placed third in the high jump.

Overall, LVC's men sat in fifth (35.5 points) after nine events scored, and the women in seventh (26 points) after 10 events, but plenty of points will come on Saturday with track finals on tap.

Wiley leaped 44-3 1/4 into a headwind, the fourth-best triple jump mark in LVC history and more than a foot better than his personal best, to win the event. He was 3 1/2 inches better than the next closest competitor.

Fenning jumped 35-8 1/2 to finish second behind national qualifier Kristen Bates of Messiah, and she also scored in the high jump as she finished fifth at 4-10 1/4.

Meehan matched his career-best as he cleared 6-4 to take third in the high jump, while Bleiler was third in the discus with a best throw of 142-4.

In other field finals, Andrew Scott placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 46-5 1/4, and Bleiler was 11th at 41-8 3/4.

LVC scored two in the women's pole vault as Ashley Weaver cleared 9-11 3/4 for fifth and Alisha Farrell 9-5 3/4 for seventh. Val Schramm was 10th at 8-11 3/4 and Tracey Fortugno 11th at 8-0.

The sprinters had a good preliminary day as LVC qualified multiple runners to Saturday's finals. The women put three through to finals in the 100, led by Johanna Walker's second-place 13.08, and Katie Evison (13.17, 5th) and Allix Sanders# (13.23, 7th) are also through. In the women's 200, Walker ran 26.19 to qualify second and Evison took more than a quarter-second off her personal best to qualify third in 27.01.

In the 100 hurdle prelims, Walker ran 15.74 for fourth and Kesley Wallen 17.36 for eighth, and LVC also put two through to finals in the 400 hurdles with Meggy McLean's third-place 1:09.45 and Miranda Klinger's 1:10.16, which smashed her personal best by more than three seconds.

Meanwhile, Alisha Farrell ran a PR of 1:00.03 in the 400 to qualify second, and Megan Long ran 2:22.35 (5th) in the 800 prelims.

For the men, Josh Light went through in the 100 and 200, running 11.00 flat in the 100 to qualify second and 22.86 in the 200 to qualify seventh.
