SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior
Josh Light ran the second-fastest 100-meter dash in LVC history to move through to Friday's finals to highlight Day 1 of the 2010 ECAC Championships at Springfield College.
Light, the MAC 100-meter champion last weekend, ran a wind-aided 10.82 (+2.9) in prelims to move through to finals in fifth position overall, blowing by his previous best of 10.93 and coming within a hundreth of a second of the school record. His time was the fastest 100 for LVC in 26 years, since Ken McKellar ran the record of 10.81 in 1984.
Two LVC throwers were also in action and just missed out on finals spots as
Zach Bleiler placed 11th in the hammer throw and
Clint Surgeoner was 11th in the javelin. Bleiler threw a personal-best 50.29m (165-0) in the hammer, while Surgeoner threw 54.11m (177-6) in the jav.
Johanna Walker was the only member of the women's team in action Thursday as she ran a 15.89 in the 100 hurdles to finish 16th overall.
On Friday, both the men's and women's 4x100 and womens' 4x400 relays will be in action, along with
Megan Long in the 1,500 and
Joe Meehan in the high jump. Bleiler will also compete in the shot put.
