M. Lax Can't Catch Manhattanville, 8-5

Box Score

PURCHASE, N.Y. - A solid defensive effort by Lebanon Valley wasn't enough as Manhattanville ripped off 48 shots en route to an 8-5 victory on Saturday.

The Dutchmen (2-7, 0-5 MAC) had 18 saves from goalkeeper Ethan Hilberg, but the Valiants' (4-6, 3-2 MAC) offense was too much as they pulled away with three third-quarter goals.

Kyle Stewardson scored two goals for the second straight game to lead LVC, and Scott Sutton, CJ Adams, and Ian Schmid also added goals. Joey Hasbrouch and Andrew McMillin each netted a pair for the Valiants.

M'ville led 48-16 on shots and generated 35 LVC turnovers, but the Dutchmen had plenty of chances to make some offense as Sutton went 9-of-16 on face-offs. However, Lebanon Valley went just 2-for-8 on extra-man opportunities, including a man-up goal in the final moments of the game.

Stewardson scored less than a minute into the game to grab a quick 1-0 lead, but Hasbrouck and Lance Schulman scored less than a minute apart to take a 2-1 lead, and McMillin's first made it 3-1 to end the first quarter.

Schmid cut the lead to a goal to start the second, but Mike Stauss' man-up tally extended the lead back to two before Sutton brought it back within a goal before the half at 4-3.

The Valiants took control in the third quarter, however, as they scored three in a row out of the break to go up 7-3 before Stewardson converted Rich Drazin's feed to stop the run just before the end of the quarter. Both teams got a single goal in the fourth, with Matt Hanley scoring for M'ville and Adams grabbing a late goal for the Dutchmen.

Andrew Predun made seven saves to earn the win for Manhattanville.

LVC will return home to host Misericordia on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
