Baseball Sweeps Albright

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley baseball posted two wins over Albright Saturday afternoon, sweeping the three-game season series. The Dutchmen claimed a 5-4 victory in the first game and a 7-2 win in the nightcap at McGill Field. Junior Nate Blough pitched all seven innings in the first game for the win, while sophomore Ryan Schwartz went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs in the second game.
 
The Dutchmen are now 13-4 on the season, 5-0 at McGill Field, and sit atop the Commonwealth Conference with a 3-0 record.

The game marked the third annual Cystic Fibrosis Day at the Park, with LVC raising more than $750 for the Foundation. CF child James Rousher (pictured, above) threw out the game's first pitch.
 
GAME ONE
LVC struck first, scoring three runs on three hits in the second inning. Sophomore Jacob Rhody hit a leadoff double to far left field and advanced to third off a single by classmate Dustin Deibert. Freshman Lee Krammes continued with a double to deep left field, scoring Deibert. A groundout scored Krammes before the inning was over to take a three run lead.
 
Albright rallied in the third, scoring three runs on four hits, with three doubles in the inning.
 
The two teams remained scoreless until the fifth inning when the Dutchmen scored a run to take a 4-3 lead. Schwartz opened with a single and stole second. Classmate Colt Zarilla sent Schwartz home with a hit falling between first and second base. Albright pitcher Tyler Storms retired the next three Dutchmen batters to end the inning.
 
The Lions rallied in the next inning, scoring one run to tie the game again with back-to-back singles up the middle.
 
With extra innings looming, Schwartz started the bottom of the seventh with a single and stole second. He advanced to third off an error by the catcher and scored the winning run after an error by second base.
 
Blough earned his third win of the season for the Dutchmen, striking out two batters.
 
GAME TWO
The Dutchmen opened the game with a single from Zarilla sending a run home for the early lead.  LVC added to its lead in the third with another run scoring. Schwartz led things off with a single to right field and moved to second off a sacrifice bunt. Zarilla followed with a single to advance Schwartz to third and a fielder's choice scored the run.
 
Albright fought back in the sixth and tied the score with two runs scoring on three hits.
 
LVC struck in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits. Rhody hit a single to left with one out and advanced to second off a passed ball. A single up the middle from Deibert scored Rhody. A fielder's choice moved Deibert to third and he was sent home after a single to left field by freshman Kevin Greene. The inning continued with an RBI single from Schwartz. With runners on second and third, sophomore Aaron Mills then hit a single up the middle to score both runners.
 
Junior Shane Specht started on the mound for LVC. He pitched four innings and did not allow a run while posting two strikeouts. Classmate Jake Becker pitched the final three innings for the Dutchmen.
 
LVC hosts York College (Pa.) Tuesday afternoon for a game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
