HARRISBURG, Pa. - Lebanon Valley College Baseball swept a doubleheader with Penn State Harrisburg Saturday afternoon for its fifth and sixth straight victories. Sophomore Jacob Rhody went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and freshman John Hildebrand was 2-for-2 in a 2-1 win in the first game. Sophomore Colt Zarilla led the Dutchmen in the second game with two RBIs in a 12-10 victory.
In the first game, LVC reached the scoreboard with a run in the third inning. Hildebrand opened with a double and advanced to third on an error, and a single from Zarilla sent Hildebrand home. A walk loaded the bases for the Dutchmen but the inning ended on a fly out to right, stranding the runners.
Lebanon Valley added a run in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Aaron Mills started with a single and advanced to second off a sacrifice. A single from senior Grant Wiest moved Mills to third and a single by Jacob Rhody sent a run home.
Penn State Harrisburg began a rally in the sixth, with a run scored by a sacrifice fly. But LVC freshman pitcher Lee Krammes struck the batter out to strand two on base, including the tying run at third. Krammes continued in the seventh, striking out the first two batters for his third win of the season.
Krammes recorded seven strikeouts for the win, and freshman Derek Brousseau posted the final out in the seventh inning for his first save of the season.
Zarilla led LVC in the second game of the day, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBIs.
The two teams traded runs in the first inning with a single from Zarilla scoring a run for LVC.
Lebanon Valley broke onto the scoreboard in the third with seven runs scoring on five hits. Sophomore Dylan Holland started the inning off with a single and was sent home off a hit by Zarilla. An error scored another run, and Dustin Deibert drew a walk to send Zarilla home. Errors by the Nittany Lions and singles from the Dutchmen continued the scoring in the inning.
LVC's starting pitcher Shane Specht held Penn State Harrisburg scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings to preserve the seven run lead.
The Dutchmen scored four runs on three hits to increase their lead to 11 runs in the sixth. A single from Rhody and a single from freshman Kevin Greene were two plays in the inning to score runs for LVC.
Penn State Harrisburg began a late rally, scoring five runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to come within striking distance. Sophomore Ian Younker and Wiest combined to pitch the final two innings. Wiest came in during the seventh inning and posted back-to-back strikeouts to strand two runners on base and seal the victory.
Specht struck out seven batters through five innings for the win, while Younker recorded a strikeout.
LVC hosts Penn State Berks Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
