ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley raced out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back, winning 10-5 over Immaculata Saturday at Arnold Field.
In challenging weather conditions with a cold rain and gusty winds, the Dutchmen (2-1) outshot the Mighty Macs (0-3) 25-12 and used some tough midfield play to win the possession battle.
Hana Krechel and
Rachel Murkey each notched hat tricks for LVC, and
Allison McGinniss had two goals.
Kristin Clift and
Amanda Cubbage also found the net. Rebecca Whiteman (three goals) and Kacie O'Neill (two goals) provided IU's scoring.
The LVC midfield held an 11-6 advantage on draw controls, and held IU to just 16-of-33 on clears, led by
Jackie Hoover's four caused turnovers.
Cubbage started the scoring just 1:04 into the game, and Murkey and Krechel struck 14 seconds apart to make it 3-0 just over two minutes into the game. Murkey added another eight minutes in to make it 4-0, and LVC added four more by the end of the half to take an 8-2 lead into the break.
IU got closer to with a three-goal run to start the second half as O'Neill scored a pair around Whiteman, but LVC shut the door with Murkey's goal midway through the half, and Krechel lobbed a ball from behind goal for McGinniss to polish off the scoring late in the half.
Erica Ameigh made four saves to pick up the win; counterpart Britt Worthington stopped eight.
LVC will begin MAC play next Saturday against King's at Arnold Field.
