2010 All-MAC Teams
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Led by four first-team honorees, Lebanon Valley had six players earn places on the all-Middle Atlantic Conference teams, which were announced Tuesday by the league.
Running back
Ben Guiles and right tackle
Jason Sneeringer took first-team offense honors, while defensive end
Zach Bleiler and linebacker
Alex Gilchrist earned first-team defensive spots. Center
Clint Surgeoner and strong safety
Dane Eichelberger received second-team awards. Only Gilchrist is a first-time all-MAC recipient.
Lebanon Valley finished the regular season 6-4, winning their final five games after a 1-4 start. They earned a berth in this Saturday's ECAC South Atlantic Bowl at Johns Hopkins University.
Guiles, a 2009 second-team pick, had a record-breaking 2010 as a junior, setting LVC single-season marks for rushing yardage (1,285 yards) and touchdowns (17). He led the MAC in rushing (and ranks 11th nationally), and had seven 100-yard games, including a career-best 262 yards at King's.
Sneeringer, who was a member of the 2009 first-team and 2008 second-team, and Surgeoner, a 2009 second-team selection, anchored the offensive line as team captains. They were a big part of LVC's rushing attack, leading the Dutchmen to a 199 ypg average on the ground with 23 touchdowns. They also helped limit opponents to a MAC-lowest nine sacks, including none in the final three games of the year.
On the other side of the ball, Bleiler had a huge senior season at defensive end. A 2009 first-team and 2008 second-team selection, he led the MAC with 11.5 sacks (seventh in the nation) among 55 tackles and 17.0 tackles for a loss. The two-time MAC Player of the Week made a big impact on special teams, as well, blocking two PATs and a field goal. He also forced a fumble and recovered two, including a 15-yard touchdown return against Widener.
At outside linebacker, Gilchrist was one of the conference's top tacklers, racking up a MAC-best 20.0 TFL with 73 tackles overall. He had 7.5 sacks and two pass break-ups. His 20 tackles for a loss ranks seventh in Division III.
Eichelberger, who is now a three-time second-team pick, anchored LVC's secondary at strong safety, making 50 tackles. Behind the line, he came up with 4.0 TFL and a sack, but he made his biggest impact in pass coverage, intercepting a team-best four passes and breaking up three more. he also forced and recovered a fumble.
