2009 Tazon de Estrellas Press Release
GRANBURY, TEXAS - Senior running back
Charlie Parker and senior left tackle
Sean Tetreault have been selected to represent the United States for Team Stars & Stripes in the Tazón de Estrellas senior all-star game outside Mexico City on Dec. 19.
The team of NCAA Division III all-stars will take on Tecnológico de Monterrey All-Stars in the Tazon de Estrellas ("Bowl of the Stars") at Tec's Estado de México campus after a week-long tour of Mexico.
Team Stars & Stripes will be coached by former Delaware Valley College head coach Bill Manlove, and includes 51 players from 35 Division III colleges. In addition to Parker and Tetreault, the Middle Atlantic Conference will also be represented by Delaware Valley quarterback Mike Isgro and defensive back Charles Squitiere, and two players from LVC's 2009 non-conference opponents, Salisbury defensive end Paul Cynewksi and Ursinus defensive tackle Mark Worrilow, were selected.
The team will practice at the Tec Monterrey facility in Atizapan de Zaragoza near México City, from December 14 to 18, and will also visit the Aztec pyramids and the nation's capital before facing their Mexican opponents. Tec Monterrey is the premier private university system in Mexico, with campuses in numerous locations around the country. Tec teams have captured eight of the past ten Liga Major football national championships.
The pair are the first Dutchmen to compete in an all-star game since OT/TE
Dave Zimmerman '07 played in the East Coast Bowl and the Aztec Bowl in 2006. Both of those games are now defunct.
Parker and Tetreault both completed outstanding careers for LVC this season as they led the Dutchmen to a 9-2 record and the ECAC Southwest Bowl championship. Both were four-year starters and multi-time first-team all-MAC selections.
Parker, a three-time first-team all-MAC pick, leaves the program as its all-time leading rusher in every category. He owns the LVC records for career yards (3,757), carries (826), and touchdowns (35), and had 966 yards and 12 touchdowns on 231 carries as part of a twin-headed rushing duo this season with
Ben Guiles. The senior ran for 17 100-yard games in his career.
Tetreault provided the blocking for Parker over the past four years at left tackle. The 6-3, 295-pound team captain was a three-time all-MAC pick, including two first-team selections. LVC had the top-ranked rushing offense in all four of his years on the line, including 222 yards per game and 4.4 yards per carry averages in 2009. He also led a line that allowed just 13 sacks in 11 games.
