ASHLAND, Va. - Lebanon Valley let a second-half lead slip away as it fell to Frostburg State in a shootout, 87-81, Tuesday night in the consolation game of the Randolph-Macon College Coaches' Classic.
The Dutchmen (5-5) dropped their second game in a row after losing their first-round match-up with #13 Ursinus on Monday. Kyle Enoch led LVC with 15 points and eight rebounds, and Grant Becker added 14 points as he was named all-tournament. Sean MacIntosh came off the bench for 13 points.
The Bobcats (4-6) were led by Brian Anderson, who exploded for 31 points, including five of FSU's nine three-pointers. Juan Wansley and Steven Ogg added 20 and 19 points, respectively.
Although the Dutchmen shot a solid 54.4 percent for the game, they let a slim lead slip away midway through the second half as Frostburg started to bomb it from the outside. The Bobcats hit six of eight second-half three-point attempts.
Despite 14 first-half turnovers, LVC led for most of the half, working their lead as high as nine points late in the half after MacIntosh canned a trey. However, two quick three-pointers by Anderson cut the lead to three, and after the two sides traded foul shots, LVC took a 40-36 lead into the break.
The Bobcats quickly turned the game into a shootout to start the second half, tying the game less than a minute in on Wansley's bucket and taking the lead less than a minute later thanks to Anderson's layup.
LVC retook the lead, but it didn't last as a Wansley three-pointer and Carter Simmons' layup kicked off an 11-2 run that put them firmly in control of the game. LVC battled back, and cut the lead to a point with MacIntosh's three-pointer with 2:42 remaining, but Anderson answered with consecutive baskets to go up 83-77 with 53 seconds left.
Still within striking distance, Becker was fouled but made just one foul shot, but LVC got the rebound off his second, and Enoch drained a three-pointer to put LVC within a basket of the lead with 12 seconds left. Unfortunately, Nick Sefcik made both of his foul shots, and Becker's three-point desperation was off the mark.
LVC will return home Saturday to face FDU-Florham.
