Women's Hoops Falls Short at Washington, 74-68

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md
. - Lebanon Valley made a late comeback attempt but couldn't catch Washington College, falling 74-68 in non-conference women's basketball play Tuesday night.

The Dutchmen (6-2) gave up an early 12-0 run to the Shorewomen (5-1), losing a lead they never got back.

Lori Lidlow drained 21 points, while Eryn Schultz was 3-for-3 beyond the arc, including a key late trey in the comeback attempt, on the way to 15 points. Andrea Hoover added 12 points and seven assists.

Turnovers hurt LVC all night as they committed 19 to WC's 12, contributing to the loss despite superior field goal shooting (49.1 percent to 43.4 percent) by the Dutchmen. Washington was an outstanding 20-of-23 from the line, including 8-of-8 in the final minute of the game.

Jane O'Donnell paced Washington with 25 points, including four three-pointers. Three other Shorewomen were in double digits.

After taking the early lead at 12-8, Washington reeled off the next 12 points, holding LVC scoreless for nearly five minutes in the middle of the first half. Washington extended its lead through the rest of the half and held a 39-31 advantage heading into the break.

LVC battled in the second half, getting as close as three midway through the period, but the Shorewomen didn't budge and appeared to ice the game on a pair of free-throws by Jessica Jamrogowicz with 24 seconds left.

The Dutchmen, however, ran the floor and Schultz drained a big three to cut the lead to four points with 20 seconds left. With a glimmer of hope left, Julie Sherwood went to the line for WC and made both shots to keep it a two-possession game. Lidlow canned a jumper at the other end with seven ticks left, but it was too late as Brianne Slizofski made her foul shots to finish the game.

LVC will break for the holidays and take on #8 Kean University Jan. 2 at Gettysburg College.
